High Speed Cameras Aid In Spacecraft And Astronaut Safety For NASA
11/22/2016
At a lab in New Mexico, A team is assessing this dangerous “space trash” with the use of ultra-high-speed imaging cameras. They fire fake “space trash” no bigger than a pea at things like oxygen tanks and steel cables. Let’s just say it never ends well (everything gets ripped in half), and the scientists can’t even see the projectiles to track them. That’s where Vision Research Phantom cameras, such as the Phantom v711 and Phantom v2512, come in. With the ability to record this astronomical data, these imaging cameras reveal a new level of understanding of the destruction that something like “trash” can cause to a spacecraft or astronaut.

Advances In CMOS Image Sensors And Associated Processing: Part 1
5/12/2016
New Canon technology has exploited a large 35 mm Full Frame CMOS image sensor with spatial sampling of 1920 (H) x 1080 (V) to acquire a distinctively large photosite of 19 um x 19 um, which enabled development of an HD camera with unprecedented sensitivity.

Non-Destructive Testing Of Mid-IR Optical Fiber Using Infrared Imaging
3/18/2016
Some materials used in the manufacture of optical fiber lasers cannot have any defects if the laser system is to be efficient. This app note shows how infrared imaging can be used to carry out NDT of optical fiber integrity. The methodology allows the screening of tens of meters in just a few seconds.

Visionary Developments In Military And Defence Surveillance
7/3/2013
Sight is the most advanced and dominant human sense, and it is estimated that 25% of the brain is dedicated to the processing of images. The brain even prefers to ‘visualise’ problems and see information pictorially, as vision is so central to the way in which the world is perceived. By Steve Parker, PhD, and Fan Wu, PhD, RFEL

HD Video — A Travel Log
3/12/2013
Through the convergence of technologies, compact video camera design, improved optics, and video storage and transmission, high definition delivers incredibly diverse images from the depths of the sea to the edge of space and everywhere in between. During the past several years, the adoption of HD video formats for capture, display, and distribution has yielded imaging that offers superior clarity, resolution, and color details as never before. Line Scan Cameras Enable High Speed Inspection of Color Filters within Flat-Panel Display
10/25/2011
The market of flat-panel displays (FPD) is a nearly $100 billion business that needs efficient automated optical inspection (AOI) to meet rising demand and remain cost effective. The color filters within the display represent a major inspection task, demanding both precision and speed. Inspection systems using high-speed, highresolution line scan cameras have proven themselves both equal to the present need and able to support panel technology’s evolution.
