Pyroelectrics vs. Thermopile IR Detectors

Thermopile IR detectors are thermocouples made from dissimilar materials with differing Seebeck coefficients. The Pyroelectric effect in is manifested in dielectric materials which have a crystalline asymmetry such that its polarization is changed when its temperature is changed. Download this application note for a full discussion on the differences and similarities between pyroelectrics and thermopile IR detectors.
