Global vaccine demand and heightened regulatory scrutiny leave no margin for error in biopharmaceutical fill-and-finish operations. One manufacturer relies on an innovative near-infrared laser system to seal vaccine vials through a precise photochemical reaction. Each vial is exposed to a three-second laser burst, making accurate average power measurement essential to confirm seal integrity, prevent contamination, and avoid costly compliance failures.
To meet these demands, Gentec-EO developed a fully customized laser power measurement solution tailored to the customer’s application. The challenges were significant: capturing accurate readings within a short three-second firing window, integrating a compact sensor capable of handling double-digit wattage without active cooling, synchronizing measurement output precisely at the required time mark, and providing calibration at a specific wavelength and power level to satisfy regulatory requirements.
The solution combined a modified UP12E-20H-H5-D0 thermopile detector with a customized P-LINK (RS-232) interface featuring special firmware that delivers a single measurement at exactly 2.8 seconds. Calibration was performed at the customer’s exact operating wavelength and power level, with documentation adapted to meet strict compliance standards.
The result is a high-accuracy, regulation-ready measurement system that strengthens quality control, reduces waste, and mitigates legal and financial risks. By ensuring every vial receives the correct laser energy, the manufacturer safeguards both patient safety and operational efficiency—demonstrating how tailored laser measurement solutions can support critical healthcare production.
