HyperFlux U1 Spectrometer

Source: Tornado Spectral Systems

OEMs working in low-light applications like Raman spectroscopy often must trade spectrometer throughput for spectral resolution in their designs, or vice versa. Tornado Spectral’s HyperFlux U1 is a factory-configurable optical platform that utilizes the company’s proprietary High Throughout Virtual Slit (HTVS) core, which eliminates the spectrometer’s slit and allows you to reduce scan time without suffering performance loss.

In weak-signal applications like high-speed Raman spectroscopy, light source and blend uniformity measurement, manufacturers typically must make compromises when it comes to the sensitivity/throughput and resolution performance of their instruments.

The proprietary High Throughput Virtual Slit (HTVS) technology in Tornado’s HyperFlux U1 Spectrometer allows more than 95% of input light to enter the instrument, thus delivering a higher signal than other comparable systems and enabling OEMs and researchers to achieve both high resolution and high sensitivity/throughput. The U1 decouples spectral resolution and light throughput to provide them simultaneously, allowing the performance advantage to be “spent” in whatever way bests suits your particular application, for example:

  • Reduce scan time while delivering the same results as a conventional spectrometer.
  • Take more accurate measurements in the same scan time as a conventional spectrometer.

Additional benefits include:

  • Factory configurable options: bandpass (380 to 1100 nm), resolution (0.2 to 0.5 nm), throughput, laser excitation wavelengths (532, 633, 785, and others), and cooled/uncooled detector options.
  • Realize higher performance at a lower cost — the U1 is less expensive than systems with similar performance.
  • Easily integrate U1 into a range of OEM platforms, thanks to its small footprint (12.2” x 4.1” x 11.8').
  • Achieve reliable, consistent results due to a robust design with no moving parts and excellent stability, as well as no significant resonance under 600 Hz.
