Custom Optics That Deliver Custom Results
Bedford, NH – October 15, 2020 - Laser Components, a global manufacturer of laser optics, offers a wide array of optimally adapted products to meet every customer’s unique requirements. From substrate production and coatings to thorough outgoing goods inspection, all operating steps are carried out in house. Many end products, such as internal coating optics from NUTECH, require small numbers of precisely manufactured optics, used to equip tubes and hollow bodies with corrosion and wear protection from the inside. The functionality of these custom-made tools largely depends on the quality of the mirrors and lenses installed. Thickness, radius, and radius of the curvature of the individual lenses depend on the length of the tool, the coating material, and type of laser used.
Based on computer-calculated lens design and the technical capabilities of the production facilities, LASER COMPONENTS’ engineers work closely with the customer to develop designs that achieve the desired beam properties and cost-effective manufacturing. Grinding and polishing machines are designed for substrates with diameters ranging from 12.7 mm to 55 mm. Each substrate blank is individually clamped in the grinding machine, and adjusted for each lens type, followed by a fine polishing process to that finds the smallest of irregularities. This results in optimally shaped lenses with a maximum deviation of λ/10.
Several processes are available for coating optics offering different possibilities in layer tension, laser damage threshold, combinability, and complexity of the layer design. This ensures the best processes for optimum customization for our customers. The manufacturer selects the best process together with the customer.
