In this tutorial, Kévin Foster from Gentec-EO introduces the PC-Gentec-EO software, a free tool compatible with most Gentec-EO products, for precise power measurement and data logging. The process begins by connecting to a power detector, such as the INTEGRA USB detector. The first crucial step is adjusting the wavelength in the software to match your laser's wavelength, as the correction factor is applied automatically. Zero calibration is essential for accurate readings, and users are guided through stabilizing the detector and setting the zero point.
The software offers various modes, including automatic range selection, single-shot energy mode, moving average, and irradiance, with detailed explanations of each. Moving average allows averaging of measurements over a selected period, improving measurement stability. Users can apply correction factors such as multipliers or offsets to adjust readings, especially useful for compensating with attenuators. However, the offset function is rarely used, while multipliers are more common in specific applications.
Additionally, the software features a display tab for adjusting font size and the number of decimal digits, and an acquisition tab for logging data to CSV files. The data can be timestamped and saved at customizable intervals, with a maximum rate of six measurements per second for thermal power detectors.
Lastly, the tutorial explains how to use the trigger level function to eliminate noise, ensuring reliable measurements. The trigger level filters out noise by setting a threshold, with a default setting of 2% to prevent false readings.
