Avalanche Photodiodes Driving Advanced Ranging Systems

lidar

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology continues to drive innovation in automotive, industrial, and mapping applications, offering precise distance and imaging data. As next-generation systems demand greater range, reliability, and environmental resilience, detector performance becomes increasingly critical. Opto Diode’s ODD-APD-002 Silicon Avalanche Photodiode, optimized for 905 nm operation, delivers the exceptional sensitivity, speed, and stability needed for advanced LiDAR and time-of-flight (ToF) systems.

Engineered with a 500 µm active area and responsivity of approximately 0.55 A/W, the ODD-APD-002 achieves internal gain up to 100× with low excess noise and excellent linearity. Its low capacitance (~1.2 pF) enables sub-nanosecond rise times, ensuring accurate detection of faint reflections—even in bright ambient light. Housed in a rugged, hermetically sealed TO-46 package, it maintains performance across wide temperature ranges (–45 °C to +85 °C).

Ideal for autonomous vehicles, ADAS sensors, industrial safety scanners, robotics, and 3D mapping systems, the ODD-APD-002 provides dependable signal conversion for both compact modules and large-scale LiDAR platforms. Opto Diode also offers the ODD-APD-003 (1064 nm) and ODD-APD-001 (1550 nm) models for extended-range or eye-safe applications, supporting wavelengths across 900–1700 nm to meet diverse system requirements.

With vertically integrated manufacturing, customization options (including optical filters or preamplified assemblies), and decades of photonics expertise, Opto Diode ensures consistent gain characteristics and long-term reliability. The ODD-APD-002 series empowers designers to achieve the precision, range, and stability essential for the next generation of intelligent sensing and autonomous navigation systems.
