Welch Allyn Offers 270-Watt Fiber Optic Illuminator to Medical Original Equipment Manufacturers
"With our May 2001 acquisition of Cogent Light Technologies' medical fiber optic headlight business, we gained access to the unique technology behind our ST-270 and its lower wattage sister product, the ST-100," said Ian Edwards, marketing manager for Welch Allyn's Lighting Products Division. "This technology is what allows the 270W illuminator to inject high-intensity, sunlight-quality light into one- or two-millimeter diameter fibers. For medical endoscopy applications, the performance is unparalleled."
Welch Allyn's ST-270 consists of a 140 mm x 286 mm x 324 mm metal casing that houses a 270W arc lamp and all necessary control electronics and cooling components. "This fiber optic illuminator also features a median lamp life of 2,000 hours, so replacement costs are really kept to a minimum," said Edwards.
Powered by 100~240VAC, the portable unit features a color temperature of approximately 5,600K and is rugged enough for operation in virtually any medical environment. The illuminator is equipped with a STORZ and Olympus fiber adapters, with optional ACMI adapter available. Moreover, for easy integration into medical lighting applications, the Welch Allyn Cogent Light fiber optic illuminator has all relevant medical regulatory approvals.
The ST-270 is among the newest additions to Welch Allyn's line of Medical OEM fiber optic illuminators. This product family also includes the ST-100, the LB60-MED and HLS-24-MED Solarc™ illuminators.
