Tom Deberardine, executive VP of sales at PD-LD, gives us an overview of PD-LD's product lines and capabilities, as well as where they fit into the defense/security/sensing industry. PD-LD is a manufacturer of customized laser products and products based on the company's patented Volume-Bragg Grating (VBG®) technology.

Tom Deberardine: Hi. My name is Tom Deberardine. I am here at the SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing show 2012 in Baltimore. We are taking this opportunity to represent our stabilized light sources for use in Raman spectroscopy applications.

This show is a good venue for us because of the need for stabilized light sources to be used in threat detection and spectrographic applications where hazardous materials and other components that might be considered dangerous need to be revealed to the investigator.

Our company specializes in producing a variety of different wavelengths of devices that we offer at both a component level and a complete integrated system. For OEMs, we offer discrete devices that they can integrate with their own electronics or we can offer a complete turnkey solution in the form of our LabSource instrument which can be configured with one or two lasers.

Our two-laser device is intended for use in the SERDS applications, the chip excitation at Raman differential technique whereby 785 nanolasers are separated by a small increment in order to reduce the fluorescence background found in some of the materials being looked at.

In addition to our instrumentation, PD-LD specializes in discrete component manufacture. We offer a wide variety of photodetectors, LEDs, lasers, PIN TIAs, and APDs that are fiber-coupled to both multi-mode and single-mode fiber in custom configurations again for use by OEMs and end users that may need to have miniaturized componentry with fiber optic interface capabilities.
