The GeoLas C is a Geological Laser Microprobe System that incorporates laser, optics, sample handling and ExciLas software. This complete system is ideal for trace element analysis in solids, especially studies of geological samples.

The system features a high energy, low wavelength laser ablation system operated with the COMPex 102 excimer laser. It offers an ultra high precision XYZ stage; digital imaging software; expanded laser methods for depth profile and segmented line scanning; image downloading, retrieval and export; 1000 point capability for surface mapping and depth studies; and operation modes of either a sample tracing mode or a manual drawing mode. Due to its high performance laser beam homogenizer, the system overcomes the drawbacks of the non – homogeneous excimer laser beam profiles. The uniform intensity distribution in the ablation spot results in very uniform ablation parameters over the whole area, regardless of the spot size. The benefits are lowest fractionation possible, as well as highest accuracy when doing depth profiling in layered samples.

The CETAC Excilas operating software was specially developed to produce maximum sampling flexibility for many diverse geological applications. Detailed functionality and an easy-to-use user interface provide an advanced maintenance tracking and help system, and extensive utilization of the excimer system. With a short wavelength of 193 nm, ablation characteristics for reproducible and accurate element determination make the system well suited for Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS).
