Using Thermal Camera Cores For Reconnaissance Robots
Reconnaissance robots come in all different sizes, weights, and shapes and are used for an array of applications within military operations. These types of robots are controlled remotely which reduces risk for users and allows for access into normally inaccessible sites. The FENIX® from PIAP is a light reconnaissance robot designed for detecting threats, observing, lifting, and neutralizing dangerous loads, and transporting sabotage equipment. PIAP has worked together with Xenics for the thermal imaging capabilities of its FENIX®, using Xenics’ XTM-640 thermal imaging camera core with analog output, and a 100mm LWIR lens. Download this application note that further discusses the use of the XTM-640 in reconnaissance robots, and the advantages that it provides.
