Universal Photonics Celebrates a Century of Surfacing at Photonics West 2026
Universal Photonics Incorporated (UPI), global leader in advanced surfacing materials and process solutions, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1926, the company has spent a century evolving alongside the optical and photonics industries – adapting to technological change while maintaining a strong focus on precision, performance, and application expertise.
Over multiple generations of family leadership, Universal Photonics has supported customers through decades of advancement in optical manufacturing, continually refining surfacing consumables, equipment, and processes to meet increasingly complex demands.
“Reaching 100 years reflects our ability to adapt and grow with the industry,” said Neil Johnson, President & CEO of Universal Photonics. “Every era brings new challenges, and our focus has always been on helping our customers move forward.”
“Our history gives us perspective, but our strength lies in our people and our commitment to progress,” added Charles Ritter, President, Far East Operations of Universal Photonics. “As the next generation steps into the business, we remain focused on advancing surfacing technologies for what’s ahead.”
Universal Photonics will celebrate its Centennial at SPIE Photonics West 2026 in Booths 1748 and 1749, featuring a special Centennial exhibit that highlights key milestones from the company’s history alongside today’s advanced surfacing solutions. Attendees are invited to visit the booth for interactive experiences, in-booth celebrations, and conversations with UPI’s technical experts.
