TracePro® Application Note For Lighting Systems

By Lambda Research Corp.

TracePro simulates all types of lighting systems, from troffers to down light systems. The product is based on Spatial Technologies' ACIS® engine creating compatibility with over 200 ACIS based programs, like AutoCAD, CADKEY, and Solidworks. Full non-sequential ray tracing is built into the program in a fully C graphical user interface integrated environment.

TracePro now has 4 editions to fit your pricing and needs RC, LC, Standard and Expert. TracePro Expert is especially important to the lighting industry because it contains RepTile™, a new algorithm making it possible to model and simulate hundreds, thousands, or millions of repetitive surfaces. Designing diffusers for troffers is a simple task using RepTile, which would be impossible without this algorithm. RepTile models may contain many types of surfaces including Fresnels, pyramids, dots, cones, corner cubes and prismatic shape. RepTile is extremely useful in simulating lenslet and cut pyramid arrays used frequently in the diffuser lighting display systems, especially overhead systems.

Source modeling is easy in TracePro, either by importing the geometry from any SAT compliant product, importing an IGES or STEP file or creating the source geometry inside of TracePro. Since TracePro's CAD system is built into the product, it is an easy process to add source geometries, irradiance, flux or blackbody characteristics and then simulate the light source using Monte Carlo ray tracing. TracePro is completely non-sequential; rays are emitted as source surfaces or grid emitters. These emitted rays thenintersect each surface and the ray flux is tracked as the rays reflect, transmit, scatter and absorb at each surface.
