Three-Five Systems To Produce Displays for i2go.com

Flat panel display manufacturer Three-Five Systems Inc. (Tempe, AZ) has won an order from European electronics manufacturer i2go.com for flat panel display technology. The display modules will be incorporated in the company's portable MP3 player, a device that allows users to listen to digital audio files downloaded from the Internet. Based on Three-Five's proprietary LCiD technology, the modules are readable in direct sunlight; shipments are underway.

The digital audio device market, which Forrester Research forecasts at 32 million units by 2003, is a new market for Three-Five Systems.

In another European win, Three-Five Systems will be supplying LCiD display module to an undisclosed customer for use in a high-end, commercial audio application. The company expects that a production contract will be in place before the end of the year, following the successful completion of the design/prototype effort.

The LCiD technology provides a backlit liquid crystal display that looks like an emissive light-emitting diode (LED) display, but has several important advantages. According to the manufacturers, the displays feature higher information content, higher contrast, lower power consumption, sunlight readability, and full color capabilities.
