Thermo Optek Acquires Scintag

Analytical instrumentation manufacturer Thermo Optek Corp. (Franklin, MA) has acquired Scintag Inc. (Cupertino, CA) for $4 million in cash. Scintag produces powder x-ray diffractometers used primarily in R&D laboratories for applications in metallurgy, materials science, ceramics, electronics, mineralogy, and chemistry. In its most recent fiscal year, Scintag reported revenues of approximately $5 million.

Thermo Optek produces instrumentation based on optical spectroscopy and energy-based techniques, and systems for materials analysis, characterization, and preparation. Thermo Optek is a public subsidiary of Thermo Instrument Systems Inc., a Thermo Electron company.
