FLIR Systems (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced the availability of its newest camera in the Tau family, the Tau CNV, a rugged compact and low-power CMOS HD camera for ultra low-light, video rate imaging applications.

The Tau CNV color and monochrome cameras deliver near starlight-level imaging and are designed for security, military EO systems, hyperspectral imaging, and traffic monitoring applications. The CNV operates on less than 4 Watts of power, weighs less than 175 grams, and takes up approximately 1502 cm of volume.

Incorporating Fairchild Imaging’s sCMOS technology, Tau CNV delivers best-in-class wide dynamic range of 90 db (30,000:1) and ultra-low read noise resulting in low-light performance of 600 microlux (color) and 200 microlux (monochrome). In addition, CMOS sensor technology eliminates blooming effects common to EBAPS and EMCCD cameras.

The highly configurable Tau CNV supports a variety of HD formats at 30 FPS and is compatible with either C or F series lenses. An optional integrated motorized day/night filter (IR cut) is available to support 24/7 operation and takes advantage of the camera’s excellent NIR response for added low-light sensitivity. The Tau CNV interface options include parallel, Camera Link or NTSC/PAL analog video outputs.
