StockerYale, Inc., an independent leading designer and manufacturer of specialty optical fiber, presents its new line of Bend Insensitive and Polarization Maintaining Fibers at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exhibition (OFC) in Atlanta, GA, March 25-27, 2003.

Bend Insensitive Fiber
StockerYale's bend insensitive fibers are a new addition to its growing suite of specialty optical fibers and are designed for improved bend performance in reduced radius applications.

The Company's two new bend insensitive fibers employ a moderately higher numerical aperture (NA) than standard single-mode telecom fibers and are available in a 125 µm or 80 µm-clad diameter. The moderate NA associated with these fibers delivers a lower bend loss at 1550 nm without significantly affecting splicing performance.

These fibers are ideal for tight bend radius conditions, multiple fiber wraps on a mandrel, fused fiber couplers, and sensors. In addition, StockerYale's team of scientists and engineers can also custom design a bend insensitive fiber that meets a customer's exact specifications.

Polarization Maintaining Fiber
StockerYale announces the availability of four new polarization maintaining (PM) fibers: PMF-488-B1 and PMF-633-B1, which are designed for visible wavelength polarization sensitive applications, PMF-1550-B1, which is ideal for fiber optic interferometers and voltage and current sensors, and PMF-RC-820-B1, which is a reduced clad polarization maintaining fiber, optimized for fiber optic gyroscopes, sensors, and telecommunications components applications. The Company can also custom design these fibers to meet your specific design requirements.

PMF-488-B1 & PMF-633-B1
These premium polarization maintaining fibers from StockerYale feature an operating wavelength of 488 nm and 633 nm with a beat length of < 1.2 mm and < 1.5 mm respectfully. The bow-tie stress structure provides superior high birefringence while maintaining excellent consistency.

Applications:

  • Fiber optic sensors
  • Laser delivery in spectroscopy, medical and metrological applications
  • Polarization-sensitive components

PMF-RC-820-B1
This reduced clad polarization maintaining (PM) fiber from StockerYale features an operating wavelength of 820 nm and a beat length of < 1.8 mm. Its bow-tie stress structure also provides high birefringence while maintaining excellent spliceability to existing PM and single-mode fibers.

Applications:

  • Fiber optic gyroscopes (FOGs)
  • Fiber optic sensors
  • Connectivity between source laser and modulator
  • Laser pigtailing
  • Polarization-sensitive components

PMF-1550-B1
This polarization maintaining fiber from StockerYale features an operating wavelength of 1550 nm and a beat length of < 4.0 mm. Its bow-tie stress structure provides superior high birefringence while maintaining excellent spliceability to existing PM and single-mode fibers.

Applications:

  • Fiber optic interferometers
  • Voltage and current sensors
  • Connectivity between source laser and modulator
  • Laser pigtailing
  • Polarization-sensitive components
