SCHOTT SUPREMAX 33® Gains Traction In Telescope Glass Market
SCHOTT North America, Inc. recently announced that SUPREMAX 33 rolled borosilicate glass is becoming the material of choice for glass for telescope applications. SUPREMAX® 33 glass is made by utilizing SCHOTT's unique rolling technology -the ideal process to produce thicker sheets for telescope mirrors and lenses.
SUPREMAX 33 from SCHOTT replaces PYREX from Corning, which is no longer available on the market. Some customers have seen an even better quality and clarity from SUPREMAX than from PYREX. SUPREMAX 33 shares identical properties of SCHOTT's floated borosilicate glass BOROFLOAT® 33. SUPREMAX 33 offers the qualities of low thermal expansion, high thermal resistance, excellent light transmission and impressive chemical durability and is available in a new, wider range of thicknesses (up to 66.7 mm), extending its application to telescopes. With a low density that makes it 12 percent lighter than soda lime glass, SUPREMAX is a highly versatile material suitable for an unlimited array of applications.
