Sabeus Photonics, Inc.

Sabeus Photonics, Inc.
Sabeus Photonics, Inc. was incorporated in 1998 to develop new fiberoptic components by exploiting the founders' core competencies in fiber Bragg gratings. Seed funding was provided by Ortel Corporation (later acquired by Agere). In August, 2000, the company completed a new round of funding led by Redpoint Ventures.

Sabeus Photonics, Inc. uses near-UV laser light to write Bragg gratings in optical fibers without stripping the fiber of its coating. This patented technology allows fiber gratings to be written quickly and more cost effectively than by traditional methods.

Sabeus Photonics, Inc. UV technology was first used to produce a line of resilient pump laser stabilizers. Because the fiber is not stripped and then re-coated after the grating is written, it maintains its mechanical strength.

Sabeus Photonics, Inc. has also developed a line of highly customized gain-flattening filters. These precision filters are fabricated using a proprietary, computer-controlled system. Sabeus Photonics, Inc. filters flatten the gain of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) and Raman amplifiers to within +/-0.2 dB and to 100 nm wide.

In addition to its near-UV technology, Sabeus Photonics, Inc. is developing a number of patent pending products, including cost-effective variable attenuators, add/drop filters, channel equalizers, and single-channel detectors.
