Rogers Corporation Showcases Electroluminescent Lighting At Auto Interiors Show 2007

Rogers, CT — Rogers Corporation will showcase its electroluminescent lighting (EL) backlighting solutions at the Auto Interiors Show 2007 in Detroit, MI, June 6-7 in booth #509. Rogers' innovative DUREL® EL lamps and drivers provide a broad range of automotive lighting solutions and have been used by a number of the world's largest automotive OEMs since 1991. Products at the Detroit exhibition will include EL systems for instrument clusters, cupholders, PRNDLs, radios and climate control panels, as well as mood and other accent lighting applications.

As the dominant supplier of EL lighting for automobiles, Rogers' EL lamps provide uniform lighting solutions in a thin, flexible form to fit even the narrowest of spaces. Additionally, DUREL EL lamps can be customized to fit the intricate shapes needed for mood lighting and other unique automotive interior lighting designs.

Rogers, in partnership with IEE Luxembourg, has combined its flexible EL lamps with IEE's Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR) technology to create ELuSense™, a uniformly lit sensor or smart switch that can be used in many applications in the automotive and other industries. The ELuSense smart, intuitive and unique user interface enables multiple input devices to be provided on the same EL/FSR part, as well as multiple functions on the same device. Additionally, a device using ELuSense technology can allow tactile feel without the accidental activation that is sometimes experienced with other technologies. Rogers will be demonstrating its latest ELuSense EL/FSR applications at the Detroit show, including a radio pre-select sensor device that clearly depicts ELuSense's multi-function attributes.

Rogers also provides a complete line of high-power IC drivers for automotive and other applications, which work in conjunction with the EL and EL/FSR technologies to provide OEMs with a complete lighting solution. Two of these drivers, the DUREL D306A and the D307A, have been automotive qualified and will be on display at the show.

The D306A is a powerful device that can convert a wide input voltage range from 2.0 Vdc to 16.0 Vdc to an output voltage of 400V peak-to-peak. It is ideal for lithium-ion and alkaline battery powered applications. Intended for signage, instrumentation displays and other large backlighting uses, the D306A can drive EL lamps as large as 180 cm2. The D306 IC is also equipped with proprietary wave-shaping programmability for reducing audible noise. Dual on-chip oscillators allow for independent selection of inductor switching and lamp output frequency optimization through the choice of external capacitor values or with separate external clock signals. The D306A is available in a 4X4mm QFN surface-mount package and requires a minimal number of external components. The D306, like all of Rogers' EL drivers, is Pb- and Halogen-free for RoHS and WEEE compliance.

The DUREL D307A, the most powerful IC from Rogers, will drive lamps as large as 225.8 cm2. The D307A driver offers a variety of functionality, including patented, flexible wave-shaping capability for minimizing audible noise; precision control of frequencies; accurate lamp luminance variability using pulse width signals through the CHF and/or CLF inputs; and stable power dissipation. The D307 also comes in a 4X4mm QFN RoHS compliant package.

In addition to its extensive lighting solutions, Rogers Corporation provides a complete line of products for the interior and exterior automotive markets.
