QPC Lasers Announces $1.3M In New Orders For BrightLase Ultra Lasers For Cancer And Medical Therapeutic Applications

Sylmar, CA — QPC Lasers, Inc. (QPC), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high brightness, high power semiconductor lasers for the consumer, industrial, defense, and medical markets, announced recently that it has received $1.3 million in new orders for BrightLase Ultra Lasers for use in medical applications. These two new orders come less than a month after the launch of the BrightLase Ultra product line, and will be used in surgical and therapeutic applications. Shipments for the two orders commenced last month and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008.

"We continue to see strong customer interest in our new Ultra Lasers, particularly for surgical laser applications such as the treatment of cancerous tumors, benign prostrate hyperplasia, and cardiology where they show great promise because of the laser's ability to rapidly and precisely remove tissue in a sterile and minimally invasive fashion," stated Paul Rudy, Ph.D., Vice President of Marketing and Sales for QPC. "We are very pleased to win these new orders and to help to enable the globalization of high-end medical laser solutions by providing customers easy-to-operate, high-power, cost effective, chip-based laser solutions. Our Generation III lasers offer a dramatic technological improvement compared to the expensive and complex lamp pumped high power solid state lasers which, for many years, have limited countless applications to the specialty research phase," Rudy concluded.

Surgical and therapeutic applications require high brightness laser light to be delivered the light into the body through an extremely narrow optical fiber at particular application specific wavelengths which target, for example water in tissue, hemoglobin in blood, or melanin in skin. The BrightLase Ultra Lasers feature a high brightness beam from a compact, easy-to-use and cost-effective source at these particular wavelengths that are strongly absorbed by the body.

Ultra-500 Lasers were announced last month and utilize QPC's proprietary semiconductor laser chip technology, offering increased power and industry leading brightness. For industrial customers, the BrightLase Ultra-500 provides over 400 Watts at near infrared wavelengths from an energy-efficient, reliable and cost-effective package critical for laser micro-welding, engraving and marking applications. For defense customers, the BrightLock Ultra-500 is a high performance laser pump engine, featuring up to 180 Watts in a compact, lightweight footprint with a narrow stable emission spectrum designed for solid state and fiber laser systems.

Ultra-100 Lasers were released in 2007 and offer power up to 110 Watts from 792 to 1470 nm from a 100, 200, or 400 micron core diameter fiber. Ultra-50 Lasers were announced in 2006 and offer power up to 35 Watts from 792 to 1532 nm from a 100, 200 or 400 micron fiber.
