2 - Proton™ Field and FTTX Polisher

The compact, handheld Proton™ Polisher brings flagship Independent Suspension technology to the field, delivering factory-quality, Telcordia-compliant fiber finishes.

The Proton™ Field and FTTX Polisher redefines the capabilities of field-deployed optical maintenance by bringing lab-grade production performance to a handheld, battery-powered platform. Engineered for true handheld versatility, the Proton™ allows connectors to be loaded, polishing pressure to be set, and films to be changed without the need for a workbench or external support. The system achieves Telcordia-compliant single-mode UPC and APC finishes, ensuring high-performance network integrity for both new installations and rapid connector repairs. It incorporates Krell’s proprietary Independent Suspension (IS) and optically aligned workholder design the same high-end architecture utilized in our Scepter™ mass production systems. This ensures field technicians can achieve repeatable results with typical apex offsets of less than 15 microns.

Designed specifically for the "tight-squeeze" realities of field work, the Proton™ can be operated sideways and at various orientations, granting technicians unprecedented access to cabling within cramped datacom wire closets, LAN cross-connects, and CATV fiber nodes. This maneuverability, combined with its rugged portability, makes the Proton™ an indispensable tool for the servicing and repair of mission-critical networks. New terminations can be completed in approximately two minutes, while existing connector repairs often take less than one minute, significantly reducing downtime and improving the efficiency of field-termination projects.

Beyond standard telecommunications, the Proton™ is uniquely suited for the rigorous demands of the military and aerospace industries. It is fully capable of terminating and repairing a wide range of Mil-spec components and specialized termini, including M29504, LuxCis, ARINC 801, ELIO, MC5, and RSC. Whether it is supporting shipboard communications, aircraft avionics, or tactical ground networks, the Proton™ provides a reliable, cost-effective solution for maintaining peak optical performance in the most demanding environments. Powering options include a standard 9-volt alkaline battery or an AC adapter, providing a flexible power solution for any operational scenario.
