PILineĀ® Linear Positioning Stage With Ultrasonic Piezomotor: U-521

The U-521 is a PILine® stage with an ultrasonic piezomotor designed particularly for applications requiring fast precision positioning such as micromanipulation, automation, biotechnology, sample manipulation, and sample positioning. The positioning stage features a self-locking mechanism, when switched off, for keeping the stage mechanically stable and reducing energy consumption and heat generation.

The U-521 PILine® ultrasonic piezomotor features a piezo actuator that is preloaded against a movable, guided runner through a coupling element, and is excited to ultrasonic oscillation by a high-frequency AC voltage between 100 and 200 kHz. The actuator may be deformed to create periodic diagonal motion of the coupling element in relation to the runner. This stage also has noncontact optical encoders which measure the actual position directly at the motion platform with the highest accuracy.

Additional features include:

  • Ability to position small loads quickly and with precision: Velocity to 200 mm/ s, minimum incremental motion to 0.3 µm
  • Space-saving: Only 35 mm in width and 15 mm in height
  • Self- locking when switched off
