Photon Counting Device: MPPC (Multi-Pixel Photon Counter)
Source: Hamamatsu Corporation
Hamamatsu’s MPPC, a type of silicon photomultiplier, is a photon-counting device with high photon detection efficiency, wide dynamic range, low afterpulsing, and low crosstalk. It also features small size, low voltage operation, and insensitivity to magnetic fields. These and other characteristics make the MPPC suitable low-light detectors for many applications including fluorescence measurement, radiation monitoring, and LIDAR. MPPCs are available in a variety of sizes, package types, and arrays. For easy operation, MPPC modules that integrate an MPPC and various circuits are available.
