Opto Power becomes Spectra-Physics Semiconductor Lasers
This name change reflects the increasing importance of semiconductor lasers, which have become key to the performance and reliability advantages of Spectra-Physics lasers. In fact, these semiconductor lasers are now critical components in the majority of the company's products.
"OPC products have enabled Spectra-Physics to develop a series of innovative products, such as the FCbar line and the Millennia, the world's first high power, low noise, solid state green laser," says Alfred Feitisch, Vice President and General Manager, SPSL. "Because we provide such a critical technology, Spectra-Physics has been working for some time to make OPC a more fully integrated business unit within the company, and the name change marks the completion of that process.
"The new SPSL combines the reliability, quality and customer service of Spectra-Physics with OPC's established semiconductor technology and volume manufacturing capability. As a result, SPSL now possesses both the resources and technology to deliver enhanced support and the highest possible value to all users of our products."
Founded in 1961, Spectra-Physics [SPLI] manufactures semiconductor-based lasers and laser optics for a variety of end-markets.
