nova optical polishing

The NOVA™ optical polishing system from KrellTech provides industry-leading flexibility and precision for a wide range of photonic components.

Designed for connectors, waveguides, bare fibers, optical chips, lenses, PLCs, and fiber arrays, NOVA™ integrates the proven features of KrellTech’s Scepter, Trig, and Flex polishers into a configurable, cost-effective platform suitable for both R&D and high-volume production environments.

NOVA™ workholders utilize KrellTech’s patented independent suspension at each connector position, ensuring controlled pressure and uniform contact. The Microfeed™ fixture advancement enables in-machine air polishing and epoxy removal, streamlining workflow while maintaining precise optical alignment at each position. Fixtures are interchangeable, supporting diverse components and allowing mixed connector types in a single setup.

Bare fibers can be polished at variable angles using specialized adapters, accommodating diameters from 80 µm to over 3 mm and a variety of fiber types, from standard single-mode to PM, sapphire, and PCF. The system supports wedge and chisel tip geometries for advanced fiber shaping, while optional video inspection monitors the polishing process for consistent quality.

NOVA™ also meets Telcordia compliance standards and handles MIL-Termini and other industry-standard connectors. Adjustable polishing angles and custom fixtures enable specialized applications, making NOVA™ scalable for harsh environments, field installations, or laboratory settings. By combining precision, versatility, and automation, NOVA™ sets a new benchmark for high-quality optical surface processing across multiple industries.
