New Yellow DPSS Laser Produces 25 mW At 561 nm

Carlsbad, CA – Melles Griot introduced a new member of the 85 YCA-series of diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers. The new entry has an output power of 25 mW at 561 nm—more yellow power than is available from air-cooled krypton/argon ion lasers. The additional power can be used to compensate for fiber-coupling losses or optical throughput inefficiencies associated with scanning and imaging devices. The single-frequency output exhibits less than 3% peak-to-peak noise and is an excellent choice for fluorescence-induced imaging.

85 YCA-series lasers are particularly suited for confocal laser scanning microscopy and for exciting Rhodamine, ROX, and Alexa Fluor dyes. The wavelength matches the absorption spectra of these dyes much better than the green HeNe wavelength, and the systems are more reliable, stable, efficient, and long-lived than krypton or krypton/argon lasers operating at 568 nm.

85 YCA-series lasers have a nearly circular (<1.1:1 aspect ratio), linearly polarized beam with an M2 factor of less than 1.2. The compact, conduction-cooled laser head incorporates thermoelectric cooling and automatic power control for stable, long-term operation. Power drift is less than 5% over 24 hours.
