Near-Field Scanning Optical Microscope
High-efficiency optics and integrated detectors allow high-resolution transmission and fluorescence maps in addition to topography on the nanometer scale. Fiber sensors with micromachined apertures guaranteed to be <100nm and integrated shear-force sensors are also available.
The system is designed to incorporate an acousto-optic laser module that allows simultaneous mixing of multiple wavelengths and eliminates the need to couple the laser to the fiber. The integration of the fiber scanner unit in the condenser lens allows both conventional far-field microscopy and near-field microscopy of the same area of the sample.
NSOM has a variety of applications in the biosciences and materials sciences where light microscopy below the diffraction limit is essential. High resolution mapping of fluorescent labels, single molecule fluorescence and FRET, liquid crystal polarization and magneto-optics are a few of the ways NSOM expands measurement technology to include additional optical properties.
