Metrologic Instruments Inc, .a leading manufacturer of laser, holographic and vision-based identification equipment and systems, and its wholly-owned subsidiary Adaptive Optics Associates, Inc. (AOA), today introduced a new camera-based identification system, iQ!, at the ProMat trade show in Chicago, Illinois.

iQ180 is the only all-in-one parcel information acquisition and analysis system available for the high-speed parcel, post and material handling industries. iQ180 provides barcode reading of linear and two-dimensional barcodes, OCR-compatible image-lift, dimensioning, singulation, conveyor belt position and velocity measurement, and label-to-parcel tracking from a single overhead-mounted housing measuring only 20'x20'x8'. Unique to iQ is the use of patent-pending built-in co-planar laser illumination that greatly reduces the size, complexity and power consumption associated with sodium-vapor lighting typically used with industrial cameras.

The all-in-one concept simplifies installation, connectivity and reliability for customers as the iQ180 utilizes a single cable input (AC power) and a single cable output (data). For applications requiring multi-sided "tunnel" imaging such as airline baggage systems and certain postal and parcel handling, iQ180 is easily reconfigured due to its modular construction.

Based on Metrologic's conception and initial proof-of-concept, AOA streamlined the prototyping and refinement phases of development through its expertise in imaging and systems integration. According to C. Harry Knowles, Chairman and CEO of Metrologic, "I am most pleased with the advances our combined companies have made in such a short time, both technologically and, perhaps most importantly, as a synergistic, advanced-development organization." Mr. Knowles continued, "iQ180 is the first of many planned strategic products that leverage the complimentary strengths afforded us by our merger with AOA. I am pleased that our investment is already generating reduced time-to-market returns."

For customer applications requiring cost-effective, high-performance linear bar code data capture including walk-under, shipping and receiving and work-in-process, Metrologic offers a full line of HoloTrak® IS8000 Series holographic and TECH Series laser scanners. In addition, Metrologic's HoloTrak C Series "! overhead scanners offer superior linear barcode reading and label-to-parcel tracking for high-speed conveying and automation sortation applications.
