Meller Optics Offers Sapphire Optics For Harsh Environments

Custom fabricated sapphire optics for aerospace cameras where thinner parts help reduce weight, weapons systems, and viewports in process environments are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Sapphire Optics can be manufactured to specification from 0.5 mm to 1" thick, with flatness to within 1/10th wave @6328 nm, which is ideal for the UV-VIS-NIR. More durable than quartz or ZnSe and offering chemical resistance superior to CaF2 and MgF2, sapphire optics are preferred where weight is critical and there will be exposure to fast moving dirt and sand.

Second to diamond in hardness and capable of withstanding 1000°C, Meller Sapphire Optics are available in sizes from 1/4" to 10" dia. with finishes from 60-40 to 40-20 scratch-dig, depending upon size and configuration. Windows, lenses, and viewports can be fabricated with slots, wedges, edge treatments including elliptical edge shaping, holes, and A/R coatings.
