Application Note: Magnetic Field Sensitivity

SPM detectors are insensitive to magnetic fields unlike PMTs, which are very sensitive to even weak magnetic fields (<0.1T). This is because the carriers have a very short path length due to the narrow depletion width of the microcells.

This makes SPM detectors particularly suitable for high-energy physics applications and in nuclear medicine applications such as the proposed combined MRI/PET imaging system.
