Magnetic Direct Drive With High Travel Accuracy And Stability: V-731 XY Stage

PI introduces the new V-731 reference class XY stage in its PIMag® series of high-dynamics linear motor stages. This XY stage includes incremental linear encoders for direct position measurements, and 3-phase electromagnetic linear motors. Ideal applications for this stage include micro-assembly, biotechnology, precision laser machining, optics, lens testing, and photonics alignment.

The V-731 PIMag stage’s force is transmitted directly by magnetic forces to the motion platform without friction and with zero-wear on the drive. Ironless, non-cogging linear motors provide very smooth motion, and a high dynamic velocity range along with rapid acceleration. The linear encoders provide 10 nanometers resolution. The stage also features precision crossed roller bearings with anti-creep cage assist that guarantees excellent repeatability up to 100 nanometers.

Additional V-731 features include:

  • Travel range 205 mm × 205 mm (8")
  • Velocity to 200 mm/s
  • Unidirectional repeatability to 0.05 µm
  • Optionally with stepper motor
  • Sensor resolution of 10 nm
