Lucent Technologies Plans to Sell its Power Systems Business

Lucent Technologiesto focus on its core networking business, <%=company%> (Murray Hill, NJ) today announced it is seeking a buyer for its Power Systems business, a leading supplier of power products for the telecommunications and computer industries. The company said it will begin discussions with potential buyers shortly. It expects the sale to move quickly and a buyer to be identified within six months.

Lucent's Power Systems products provide the power supply, power conversion, and backup power equipment for wireless, optical, switching, and other equipment used within communications networks. The business unit supplies computer manufacturers with a full line of power products, including the new Titania power products designed for microprocessors and other semiconductor devices. It also provides custom design, engineering, installation and technical support to customers around the world.

Some 4,700 employees work for Lucent's Power Systems, which is headquartered in Mesquite, TX, and has 30 locations around the world. Its two largest facilities are the 2,200-employee, 1 million-square-foot plant in Mesquite, the world's largest power supply manufacturing facility under one roof, and its facility in Matamoros, Mexico, with nearly 2,000 employees.
