High Performance Thin Film Optical Coatings Technical Capabilities: Longpass And Shortpass Filters

Abrisa Technologies’ longpass and shortpass filters deliver precise light control, high durability, and custom design options for advanced optical applications from UV to IR.
Abrisa Technologies offers high-performance longpass and shortpass optical filters engineered for precise spectral control across applications in biomedical imaging, industrial vision, environmental sensing, and defense. These filters enable sharper imaging, reduced background noise, and enhanced system performance by allowing specific wavelengths to pass while blocking others.
Longpass filters transmit wavelengths longer than a designated cut-on point, blocking shorter wavelengths. They are ideal for infrared (IR) transmission and visible light suppression. For example, Abrisa’s LWP-112 blocks 400–700 nm and passes 780–1200 nm, achieving over 99% reflectance in the blocked range and 95% transmission in the passband.
Shortpass filters do the opposite—transmitting wavelengths shorter than the cut-off point while blocking longer wavelengths. These are frequently used to isolate UV or visible light from IR. A typical filter like the SWP-171 passes 325–450 nm and blocks 500–700 nm, with a 50% transition at 470 nm.
Available in a range of geometries and edge finishes, these filters use durable hard dielectric coatings to resist scratching, thermal stress, and bleaching. Abrisa also offers fully custom solutions, including coating design, substrate selection (e.g., Borofloat®, fused silica), and rapid prototyping with scalable production capacity.
Common applications include fluorescence microscopy, laser line cleanup, spectral separation, night vision, gas detection, and water quality monitoring. The filters’ performance is verified at normal incidence and tailored to meet demanding environmental and spectral requirements, with support across the UV to IR spectrum (250 nm–2500+ nm).
Abrisa’s vertically integrated manufacturing and engineering expertise ensure fast turnaround, consistent quality, and reliable optical solutions.
