34.85%! LONGi Breaks World Record For Crystalline Silicon-Perovskite Tandem Solar Cell Efficiency Again

Recently, the world leading solar technology company LONGi has made another significant breakthrough in solar cell R&D. LONGi independently developed a two-terminal crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell that has achieved a conversion efficiency of 34.85%, certified by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), once again breaking the world record for crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cell efficiency.

As a leading technology pathway for next-generation ultra-efficient solar cells, crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells boast a theoretical efficiency limit of 43%, far surpassing the Shockley-Queisser (SQ) limit for single-junction solar cells (33.7%). LONGi’s tandem solar cell R&D team has consistently pushed the boundaries of this technology:

November 2023: Achieved a tandem solar cell efficiency of 33.9%, approaching the SQ limit.

June 2024: Broke new ground with 34.6% conversion efficiency.

Latest Milestone: Now, within a year, LONGi has achieved a new world record of 34.85% efficiency, showcasing the formidable R&D capabilities and relentless innovation drive of the LONGi Central Research Institute.

Last week at LONGi’s Wuhu Base in Anhui, the company also announced a groundbreaking achievement: LONGi independently developed Hybrid Interdigitated-Back-Contact (HIBC) crystalline silicon solar cell has attained a 27.81% conversion efficiency, certified by Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH). This milestone elevates the exploration of monocrystalline silicon solar cell efficiency to unprecedented levels.

With this breakthrough, LONGi has simultaneously refreshed its own world records in both single-junction crystalline silicon solar cells and crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells. This dual achievement reinforces LONGi’s position as the “Dual-Champion” in solar innovation and solidifies its leadership in core photovoltaic technologies.

As a globally leading solar technology company, LONGi places paramount emphasis on independent innovation and technological R&D, consistently advancing cost reduction and efficiency improvement across the photovoltaic industry through the industrialization of cutting-edge technologies. These approaches have enabled LONGi to establish a highly efficient R&D system and robust technology reserves, characterized by the strategy of "mass production for one generation, R&D for the next, and technology reserves for the future." Looking ahead, LONGi will remain unwavering in its commitment to technological innovation, leveraging self-developed breakthroughs and original technologies to accelerate the global energy transition.
