Athermal MWIR lenses provide greater application capability to commercial market

LightWorks Optical Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of II-VI Incorporated, is pleased to announce the expansion of the Owl-IR line to include a series of athermal F/2 mid-wave infrared (MWIR) fixed focus objective lenses. The new lenses will make their debut at the 2014 Photonics West Show at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, February 4-6, in booth #4831.

The new MWIR products follow the recent launch of the company’s first commercially available Owl-IR long-wave infrared (LWIR) lenses and provide even greater application capability to commercial users. The athermal MWIR fixed focus objectives offer radiometric quality with superior optical MTF performance for large, high resolution FPA formats (1280 x 1024) and low pixel pitch (12μm). Optimized for the 3-5 μm spectral range, these lenses are engineered to provide diffraction limited performance with low distortion and low stray light.

According to LightWorks Optical Systems General Manager, Andrew Riser, “We were very pleased at how well the OWL-IR LWIR lenses were received in the commercial market last year. The introduction of the athermal MWIR objectives is one more example of LightWorks Optical System’s commitment to developing leading-edge products that meet the expanding needs of our customers. As with the LWIR products, our design and engineering teams can customize the MWIR objectives to specified requirements.”

The Owl-IR athermal F/2 MWIR lenses are available in standard focal lengths of 50mm, 100mm, and 150mm to accommodate most commercial application needs. In addition, the optional rugged hard carbon coating on the exterior lens surface provides excellent durability.
