A singlemode, non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber with an effective area of 72 µm2 reduces nonlinear effects in long-haul transmission systems. Large Effective Area Fiber (LEAF) is designed for use with dense WDM systems operating in the 1550 nm window at 10 Gbit/s. The LEAF product introduces dispersion of 1.0 to 6.0 ps/(nm·km) over the range from 1530 to 1565 nm. The fiber has a cladding diameter of 125.0 ± 1.0 µm, with a core/cladding concentricity of 0.8 µm or less.
