The engineering, manufacturing, and development division of The Boeing Company has awarded the Kaiser Electronics division of the Kaiser Aerospace & Electronics Corp. (Foster City, CA) a contract from of a projection display for the U.S. Navy's F/A-18E/F cockpit. The unit is a 6.25 in. x 6.25 in. reflective micro liquid crystal display (LCD) based projection display. The display is slated to replace the active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) multipurpose color display (MPCD) currently supplied to Boeing by Kaiser.

The display design is a highly ruggedized integration of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) projector components and technologies benefiting from Kaiser Electronics' extensive experience in AMLCD head down displays and optics capabilities developed for head up and helmet mounted displays.
