IntelliSense, Corning Team for MEMS Development

Corning Inc. (Corning, NY) has signed a joint venture agreement with micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) developer IntelliSense Corp. for the design, development, and fabrication of optical-communications products based on MEMS technology. As part of the agreement, Corning has made an equity investment in IntelliSense; additional terms were not disclosed.

The technology is promising for fiber optic switching applications. Lucent recently announced a MEMS-based router, and startup Cronos is also focusing on the technology.
