Hamamatsu Corporation has introduced several new 10 Gbps ROSA (Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly) devices for optical fiber communications of various types, including 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SDH/SONET, and WDM systems.
For short-range 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications, the G10447 series GaAs PIN photodiode with preamp supports 10 Gbps bit rates at 850 nm. The G10447 series consists of a plastic package, 1.25 mm diameter sleeve-type ROSA for SC receptacles (G10447-51) and a plastic package, 2.5 mm diameter sleeve-type ROSA for LC receptacles (G10447-54). It has a large 60 micron active area for multimode optical fibers, and provides differential output, typical gain of 6 kohm, and typical sensitivity from 2 to -13.5 dBm. Power supply voltage is 3.3 V.
Another product for short-range applications is the G10208 series InGaAs PIN photodiode with preamp, which can be used with multimode fibers for 10GBASE-LRM and other 10 Gigabit Ethernet transmission at 1300 nm. The G10208 series consists of plastic package, 1.25 mm diameter sleeve-type ROSA for SC receptacles (G10208-51) and a plastic package, 2.5 mm diameter sleeve-type ROSA for LC receptacles (G10208- 54). Features include differential output, typical sensitivity of 2 to -19 dBm, and low power supply voltage of 3.3 V. A built-in transimpedance amplifier provides automatic gain control.
For short to long-range applications, the G10342 series InGaAs PIN photodiode with preamp supports bit rates of up to 11.3 Gbps at 1300 nm or 1550 nm. This series conforms to XMD-MSA specifications for 10 Gbps miniature devices, which ensures compatibility with 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SONET OC-192/SDH STM-64, and XFP modules. In the G10342 series, housing and signal ground are electrically isolated. Other features include low power supply voltage of 3.3 V, differential output, sensitivity from 3 to -20.5 dBm, and high transimpedance gain of 6 kohm. Low optical return loss of 35 dB is another benefit.
