Ideas Expo 2022: Lasers vs. Weeds - LZH Shows The Agriculture Of The Future

Weed or crop? At the LZH stand in Hall 9 at this year's IdeasExpo, visitors can test whether they have what it takes to be the ultimate weed hunter. Because the LZH is working on using lasers to fight weeds in a more sustainable and plant-friendly way in the future.

At the IdeasExpo from July 2 to 10, 2022, young scientists can experience at the LZH stand in Hall 9, Stand 2 , at various stations how lasers can be used in agriculture in the future to protect certain plants and weeds as well as to fight pests.

Food farming laser game: the test for weed hunters
In the food farming laser game, visitors can find out whether they have what it takes to be weed hunters. Whoever fights the most weeds in the shortest amount of time wins – according to the motto: laser vs. weeds: 1-0.

Using a Farmbot, an open-source garden robot, the LZH will show what the smart agricultural technology of the future could look like. With special software, the Farmbot controls plants in a raised bed for watering with millimeter precision. Sensors make it possible to sow seeds and destroy unwanted weeds. All of this works automatically.

Another exhibit clearly shows how special software from the LZH supports weed control. With the help of artificial intelligence, it can distinguish weeds from crops. This is then the basis for destroying the growth center of the weed with a laser.
