Volume phase transmission gratings offer highly efficient diffraction ideally suited for fiber optic telecommunications, spectroscopic and other laser tuning applications. We can record virtually any groove density required by the design engineer in DCG (5-8 micron thick dichromated gelatin) and hermetically seal it in a wide variety of substrates ranging from sub-millimeter to very large sizes.

The efficiency behavior of transmission gratings is simpler than that for reflection gratings, since no metals are present to introduce complicated electromagnetic effects and since angles of diffraction are usually small. Thus, polarization effects are virtually absent.
