By expanding their specialty glass product line, Abrisa Technologies is now a single source provider of High Ion Exchange (HIE) Glass and the customized fabrication solutions for an extremely broad selection of requirements including the application of thin film coatings, various edge treatments, custom cutting and drilling, screen printing, Bus Bars and more.

Abrisa Technologies’ High Ion Exchange or HIE glass is chemically strengthened glass that has increased strength as a result of a post-product chemical process. This process typically increases the strength of the glass by 6 to 8X that of float glass. The ion-exchange process creates a deep compression layer on the surface of the glass structure, reducing the introduction of flaws once incorporated into the end product and put into service.

By using a thin glass such as Corning® Gorilla® Glass, SCHOTT Xensation™ Cover glass, or AGC Dragontrail™, the end product will have improved transmission, reduced weight , and reduced mounting costs as just some of the significant advantages.

Typically used for electronic display screens such as smartphones, laptop and tablet computers, mobile devices, touchscreens, and more, HIE glass provides outstanding resistance to breakage, scratches and temperature fluctuations.

Corning® Gorilla® Glass is an environmentally friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin-sheet glass. Its superior composition allows a deeper layer of chemical strengthening than is possible with most other chemically strengthened glasses, making it durable and damage resistant.

Characteristics in comparison to Soda-lime glass

  • Scratch resistant
  • Scratches are less noticeable
  • Crack resistant should scratches occur (Chemically strengthened Dragontrail™ is much stronger than conventional soda-lime glass)

High Ion-Exchange (HIE™) aluminosilicate glass is designed to be a strong, lightweight, colorless and flexible glass that attains high levels of damage resistance for scratch, break, impact and shock combined with good optical clarity. It is ideal for use as protective enhancement glass for display, imaging, and sensor systems where low profiles, low weight, portability, and environmental robustness are desired.
