Hamamatsu has introduced the ORCA-Flash4.0 LT, a new addition to its scientific CMOS (sCMOS) cameras lineup. This new camera brings high-end performance to a wide range of imaging applications, such as brightfield, fluorescence, live cell, 3D, and ratiometric calcium ion imaging. The ORCA-Flash4.0 LT is comparable in price to a CCD camera but with additional advantages such as higher signal-to-noise ratios, faster frame rates, and larger field of view.
The camera’s combination of high quantum efficiency (over 70% at 600 nm) and low noise produces high signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and excellent image quality. The ORCA-Flash4.0 LT exceeds the SNR performance of Gen I sCMOS at all input photon levels and that of interline CCDs at less than 5,000 photons per pixel. This enables reduced exposure times that maintain strong SNRs across a broad range of sample intensities.
In addition to high SNRs, the ORCA-Flash4.0 LT offers a faster frame rate and larger field of view than commonly used interline CCD cameras. Capable of 30 frames per second at full resolution, the ORCA-Flash4.0 LT enables high-speed imaging acquisition at about twice the speed of CCD cameras. Another beneficial feature is the 3X larger field of view (2048 x 2048 pixels with 6.5 μm pixel pitch); this allows the use of the entire field of view of research microscopes. Other features include USB 3.0 interface, various trigger modes, large fullwell capacity, and wide dynamic range.
