Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd. Has Prepared Quantum Dots Film Made From Quantum Dot Resin Composite Material For The First Time In The World

Kawanishi, Japan /PRNewswire/ - Quantum dots are extremely tiny fluorescent nanoparticles (nano-sized crystal) typically between 10 to 10000 atoms (0.5 to 9 nanometers) in diameter. They are so small that one can't see them with a typical microscope. That's incredibly small, although we cannot ignore this extreme small size effect. Quantum dots fluorescent behavior only can be explained by quantum theory based on quantum chemistry and quantum physics.

The electronic characteristics of quantum dots are determined by their chemical composition, size and shape. This means we can control the color of light given off by a quantum dot just by changing its size. Bigger dots emit longer wavelengths like red, while smaller dots emit shorter wavelengths like green or blue which means converting light into nearly any color in the spectrum ranges from UV to IR region. Quantum dots also possess very narrow half width and high quantum efficiency compared to ordinary solid fluorescent pigment so that their application could be solar cell, display, medical (medical device), bioimaging (imaging of cancer cell, protein analysis, cell tracking etc.), quantum computer, security ink, quantum dot laser, transistor, photonic crystal, LED, thermoelectric materials, artificial photosynthesis etc.

Quantum dots generally exists as dispersed in the liquid in water or any kind of organic solvent therefore they can be applied by printing or coating procedure. However, weak points of quantum dots are usually their weak light fastness, water and heat resistance especially when printed or coated on substrate. Therefore, quantum dot film which have been applied for quantum dot display, are usually prepared by quantum dot printing, and barrier film lamination after in order to prevent quantum dot from outside gas, humidity, light and heat.

However, quantum yield of prepared quantum dots film is only 4 - 5 %. The quantum efficiency of perovskite quantum dot in an organic solvent is 80 – 90% and that of quantum dot resin composite is 35 – 40 %.  Therefore, they will try to increase quantum yield as high as the one in an organic solvent.
