Gooch & Housego Announces Qualification Of Relocated Crystal Growth Activities
Gooch & Housego are happy to report the completion of qualification activities by all customers for optical grade Lithium Niobate wafers. Following the acquisition of Crystal Technology, LLC in March 2011 G&H took the decision to establish a center for high temperature growth adjacent to our existing facilities in Cleveland Ohio.
The transfer of growth equipment, technology, and personnel from Palo Alto to Cleveland was no small task and necessarily required approval and requalification by our key customers.G&H are happy to report that the requisite qualification has been completed and that of key customers have approved the relocated site. While the qualification process was substantially different from one customer to another – in all cases the process proved demanding. G&H thanks partners for their sincere cooperation and assistance through the transition.
The result of the transfer establishes an additional 30 000 sq. ft / 2 781 sq.m. of manufacturing space prepared and outfitted for high temperature growth bringing our total space in Ohio to nearly 90,000 sq. ft./ 8 360 sq.m. Site preparation included extensive HVAC modification and sufficient electrical and infrastructure in support of crystal growth. All told G&H invested in excess of £2M for facilities improvements. While our focus thus far has been on qualifying relocated processes we now look forward to expanding both our output, to follow customer demands, and to broadening our offering of materials to follow future market requirements.
