Gooch & Housego Develops Ultra-Wideband Fused Couplers For Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Market

Gooch & Housego, global manufacturer of optical components and systems has introduced ultra-wideband fused couplers for the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) market as OCT source bandwidths increase.

The fused fiber coupler has become the component of choice when designing compact interferometer modules for OCT applications. G&H have been developing fused fiber coupler technology since 1985 and established themselves in the long haul telecommunications market due to the superior low loss, wide bandwidth characteristics of their components.

The ultra-wideband family of fused fiber couplers have been developed in response to recent advances in OCT technology, where certain applications are demanding wider optical source bandwidths to improve image resolution.

Dr Andrew Robertson, Senior Vice President commented: "While the majority of OCT market demand can be covered with couplers having 30-40nm operating bandwidths in the 850nm region, we are beginning to see the emergence of systems designed with optical sources which may have 3 or 4 times this bandwidth. We recently shipped components operating over 260nm bandwidth centred at 1050nm."

G&H have introduced four new data sheets and an application note on the dedicated OCT coupler page of their website:

  • OCT Coupler 850nm & 1300nm Wideband
  • OCT Coupler 1060nm Wideband
  • OCT Coupler Ultra Wideband
  • OCT Fiber Collimator
  • Application Note OCT Couplers
