The Lightningflash LF1 series is a high-power pulsed light source that offers programmable light emission and long service life.

Hamamatsu Corporation has introduced a new flash light source, the Lightningflash LF1 series, that can serve as a strobe light source for cameras used in semiconductor inspection systems and factory automation (FA) systems. The LF1 series consists of a xenon flash lamp, power supply and control circuit, all of which are integrated into a single unit. Two models are available: the L10211 (light guide port in rear) and L10212 (light guide port in front). Either model can be a suitable replacement for halogen lamps or continuous mode xenon lamps in inspection systems and FA systems.

In terms of operation, the LF1 series delivers high-intensity light pulses through an optical fiber. This fiber terminates as either a spot light or large-area light, depending on which type of light wand is attached to the unit. The LF1 series can be controlled by an external trigger and in synchronization with a CCD camera. In addition, the LF1 series allows users to program a series of flashes in order to control factors such as the time interval between flashes and output intensity. Other advantages of the LF1 series are its minimal heat build-up during operation, which helps prevent thermal damage to samples, and easy maintenance due to its cassette-type design, which eliminates optical axis alignment during lamp maintenance. The lamp itself has a long service life of 5 x 107 flashes.
