EDO Nets $26 Million for Ship Control System

The Royal Norwegian Navy Materiel Command has awarded EDO Corp. (New York, NY) a $26 million contract to develop an upgraded command, control, and sensor system for existing Norwegian Coast Guard vessels; the contract includes an option, worth approximately $6 million, for a similar system to be deployed on a new Norwegian Coast Guard vessel currently in the planning stage. Deliveries under the contract, which is subject to receipt of an export license and down payment, will extend through 2002.

The equipment to be delivered includes a completely integrated combat system featuring an electro-optic sensor, radar systems, and a helicopter landing system. EDO's Combat Systems Business Unit (Chesapeake, VA), will develop, integrate and deliver the systems, which will include components from several major Norwegian, European and U.S. defense suppliers.

EDO designs and manufactures advanced electro-optical, electronic, mechanical, acoustic and composite products for the defense and aerospace industries.
