Optical component manufacturer and supplier Edmund Optics (Barrington, New Jersey) is signing a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of Plummer Precision Optics (Pennsburg, Pennsylvania) in the 4th quarter, 2000, for an undisclosed amount. The acquired business will be operated as a wholly-owned division of Edmund Optics Inc. under the name Plummer Precision Manufacturing Division.

PPO focuses on custom manufacturing of precision optical components, opto-mechanical assemblies, and advanced coatings for a wide variety of industrial and defense applications. The acquisition will further expand EO's optical manufacturing/coating capabilities, and allow the company to leverage PPO's technology/skills to better serve the telecommunications, semiconductor, and biomedical markets.

Edmund Optics, Inc. has extensive plans for the new business. According to President John Stack, "The new division will serve as the perfect complement to our Tucson Design Center, which currently provides EO customers with advanced lens and system design. In addition, the new flexible coating capabilities will solidly place EO as a world-wide leader in supplying optical components, both off-the-shelf and custom," said Stack.
